Life is extraordinary. Today I interviewed Yvon, a seventy-six-year-old Dutch lady — who is also my Dutch mother-in-law. She shared with me a spoon: a spoon her parents gave her at birth, engraved with her name and zodiac sign, which she has kept, perfectly preserved, for seventy-six years. She also told me many beautiful and amusing stories from her childhood. I am especially grateful that she has kept my Naxi sheepskin — which I first brought to the Netherlands fifteen years ago, newly married — in such impeccable condition. The Life Women’s Museum is not built upon surface beauty; it is built upon flesh and blood, upon warmth, upon a resonance that all of humanity can feel — one that touches the very heart.
